11 Month of Turmoil

It’s been nearly a year that I wrote something on this blog.  A year full of heart break, that was eased from time to time by positive events.

My father’s passing, was only the beginning.  He was followed closely by my dear friend and my daughter’s Godfather, Surya Sharma, who passed in December ’24. On May 31, 25 our darling dog Nestor(as) died and took with him a piece of our heart.

Both my mother and her husband have become very sick, as well.

After breaking my right wrist last year, which didn’t mend properly, I broke my left wrist this year in Greece. Surgery was recommended in Athens, but insurance would pay in Germany only. So, I flew to Germany and ended up having to have a 4-hour reconstructive surgery, with bone being taken from my hip. Since then, I have periods, where I can barely walk and not do anything with my hands, either.

We both have developed a number of health issues, that make life more challenging, I’m afraid, but I guess that’s part of the ageing process.

Life of course is always a mixture of good and bad:

In July ’25, Achim’s step-father and former judge and soccer player, Juergen Bayer, turned 90! A great reason to celebrate. Achim’s mum also, is well and healthy, and they live completely independently in their lovely home.

In October ’25, Matilda started school.  She’s so proud. She’s also in Girl-Scouts, music lessons and dance classes.  Let’s all hope that she’ll continue loving all that.

My new clinic is nearing the finishing stage, and the new windows make us want to finish the stone-house soon, too. Last week, we installed new windows on the East side of the granite house, and it looks great!

The festival for our 20-year anniversary at the mill has been postponed, as I handed in my Master Thesis in September but haven’t got an appointment for the viva until November.  We shall celebrate the coming of age of the mill, next year, together with my 60th birthday.

Please let us know your news, too, and stay well.

Lots of love from Achim and Helena
